Staff

Deborah Jones

Program Director, Founder
Deb founded the Wyly Community Art Center in 1996 at which time she became Executive Director of the organization. In 2008 Deb became Program Director of the Wyly to focus on designing and expanding the public registration classes, partnership and volunteer programs and community events. Deb moved to the Roaring Fork Valley in 1973 after co-founding and directing the Graphic Workshop in Boston, Massachusetts. She designed and instructed the Aspen Community School art program for kindergarten through 8th grades from 1973-1993. She has served on the Aspen Education Research Foundation Board and the Aspen Snowmass Arts Education Committee. Deb is a professional artist working in the field of mixed media whose work has been exhibited nationally.

Deb also teaches a variety of classes offered at the Wyly and facilitates the Wyly's Partner Programs with local organizations.

Interns

The Wyly offers summer internships for high school and college age students interested and committed to learning and working in the visual arts. Interns apply by contacting the art center and are asked to submit a letter of intention, resume, and samples of their artwork. The internship is individually designed to the meet the needs of the intern, the Wyly programs and administration. Internship responsibilities include Wyly product creation, event support, teaching assistance, studio maintenance, administrative duties and independent projects. Please contact us if you are interested in the summer internship program. art@wylyarts.org 970-927-4123

Lars Stenstadvold

Lars has been interning at the Wyly since the summer of 2009. Lars enjoys working with Wyly classes, helping Joan organize the vast materials of the Wyly and working on his own art when he has the chance. He looking forward to starting a curatorial internship with the Aspen Art Museum. Lars hopes to move to Sweden in the Spring of 2010.

Lena Nicholson

Lena is a junior at Aspen High School. She has interned at Anderson Ranch Arts Center and the Aspen Daily News during the summer of 2009. Lena has a passion for art and plan on majoring in photography. Lena's photography has appeared in the "Aspen Times", the "Aspen Daily News," and will appear in the "Aspen Sojourner" magazine. She enjoys working in artistic communities and is looking forward to exploring new possibilities to expand her knowledge of the fine arts. She is also interested in introducing new mediums into her work.

Megan Lai

Megan came to Colorado in 2009 from California and is going to be a Freshman at Aspen High School in the fall. Megan likes to draw, play with clay, make jewelry, and play tennis. She has been a Wyly intern since winter 2010. Megan interns at the Wyly to learn more about art and work on her artistic skills.

Nettie Stenstadvold

Anette, also sometimes known as Nettie, is a junior at Basalt High School. When she is not spending her time at the wonderful Wyly, Nettie enjoys baking, cross country skiing, and doodling. The ideas behind her own artwork usually stem from her interest in science, specifically biology; however, Nettie is continually learning and open to new ways of expressing herself through various forms of art.

Sadye Harvey

The Wyly was honored to have Sadye as an intern in the summer of 2009. She is currently traveling abroad and volunteering.

Simone Franklin

Simone is seventeen and currently a senior at Aspen High School. She will be interning at the Wyly during this school year for National Honors Society (and for an excuse to do more art). She loved going to Waldorf from kindergarten to eighth grade and feels fortunate that I had the opportunity to do so. She is an art fanatic, and cannot survive school without having at least one art class all the time. She is looking forward to going to college and traveling abroad.

Volunteer

Volunteering at the Wyly is an essential part of the art center’s foundation as we strive to strengthen our community through visual art experiences and building relationships. Volunteers provide expertise, advocacy, new viewpoints, skills and support for the studio, teachers, administrative operations and community events. We provide training in learning skills for volunteers to create our Wyly product; handmade journals, cards, and jewelry, which we sell to help support our programs. Please contact the Wyly if you are interested in being part of our fantastic volunteer team.

Dana Higbie

Mountain Valley Volunteer
Dana is a longtime resident of the Roaring Fork Valley. She volunteers for the Mountain Valley Developmental Services partner program at the Wyly and her presence is most appreciated by all.

Maggie Woods

Wyly Artist and Volunteer
Hailing from the Big Island of Hawaii and now happily residing in Basalt, Maggie didn’t have much time for art until about 10 years ago. Luckily, she collided with Deb Jones and the Wyly, and there you can find her, if she’s not off visiting one or more of her 7 children or 12 grandchildren.
